1. What is Forward Madison County? 

Forward Madison County is a process to define a long-term vision for Madison county. It will set the direction for the county’s growth and development in the coming decades

2. What is a comprehensive plan? 

A comprehensive plan is a strategic guide that expresses the values and aspirations of a community. It is the broadest public policy document a community can create and establishes a long-range vision for development, housing, environment, economic development, transportation, infrastructure, and related topics. The comprehensive plan acts a guidebook for decision-makers and the basis for the County’s zoning ordinances

3. Why does Madison County need to update the comprehensive plan? 

The previous plan was drafted in 2000. Since that time, the community has experienced many changes. In general, planning represents good stewardship, and there has never been a better time to consider recent events and trends to develop well-supported policies to create the best possible future for Madison County. 

4. How does Forward Madison County relate to 2045 inMotion and other similar planning efforts underway? 

The Comprehensive Plan for Madison County will encompass a broad set to address long-term quality of life in Madison County and its municipalities. Another ambitious effort, 2045 inMotion, is underway to create a long-range transportation plan for the Anderson Metropolitan Planning Area. The planning area encompasses all of Madison County, IN, Fortville, IN and Daleville, IN. 2045 inMotion, will include robust regional public engagement to inform the final Metropolitan Transportation Plan. This plan is a requirement under the federal transportation law (Title 23 U.S. Code) and will act as a guide for the future of transportation facilities and how they function as an integrated metropolitan transportation system.

5. How long will the process take?

The comprehensive plan process will last about 14 months. 

6. What can I expect at the community participation events?  

Forward Madison County events will be informative and fun while allowing members of the community to share their ideas.

7. Do I have to be an expert to contribute ideas? 

Absolutely not! By living, working, attending school or raising a family in Madison County, you are knowledgeable about the community. Whether you are a new or life-long resident, your perspective is vital to the plan’s success.
